Faith groups applaud Biden’s ‘bold’ executive actions on climate, environmental justice

In three sweeping executive actions, President Joe Biden set in motion his ambitious climate agenda, directing the federal government to freeze new oil and natural gas leases on federal lands, make climate a national security priority, recommit to science and embed environmental justice throughout the executive branch.

An executive order on “tackling the climate crisis at home and abroad,” signed by Biden at the White House on Jan. 27, launched many of the policies he proposed during the campaign. It underscored the president's pledge that addressing the climate crisis will be central to his administration, and comes as the latest signal that he plans aggressive action despite potential roadblocks in Congress.
