In 2020, UNEP’s Faith for Earth Initiative, the Parliament of the World’s Religions, United Religions Initiative, and Bhumi Global published a report to celebrate the five year anniversary of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The report featured data they had collected on faith-based organizations around the world doing work that fell within the scope of the environmental SDGs.
Only a fraction of the collected data was used in the written report, so the Parliament and URI have now partnered with the Yale Forum on Religion and Ecology to bring the complete information to the public as a living, evolving, searchable database that will live here on our site.
The launch webinar for this project will be held on Thursday, September 2 at 11am EST. Speakers will include Iyad Abu Moghli of UNEP, Faith for Earth; Mary Evelyn Tucker of the Yale Forum on Religion and Ecology; David Hales from the Parliament of the World’s Religions; and Bishop William E. Swing, founder of United Religions Initiative. In addition, the webinar will feature some reporting out from those working on-the-ground in some of the included projects and a demonstration of how to access and filter the data within the database. Webinar registrants will receive a direct link to the database so they can explore the project listings in advance of the event.
Additional organizations and projects will be added to the database on a quarterly basis. If your faith-based organization is working on a project that falls within the environmental SDGs, and you wish to be included in this list, please fill out our submission form. See the form for required project criteria.
