Video Resources for Educators

Tara C. Trapani

In honor of the launch of our new Forum Spotlights video series, we wanted to highlight the many video resources that already exist all over the Forum site and on our YouTube channel. We know many educators are having to figure out dynamic new ways to engage their classes long-distance, and our site has collected and organized many potentially helpful multimedia resources for you. Here is a guide to what you will find around the Forum site:

FORE Spotlights
Earlier this week, we released the first video in our new weekly series, FORE Spotlights. This series will highlight scholars in the field of religion and ecology and their work. Many of the individuals featured in the series will be members of the new Forum Advisory Group. You can always find the latest video in the series posted on our homepage (a new video is released each week on Monday) and archived here in our Resource section. Our inaugural video is a welcome and introduction from our directors and founders, Mary Evelyn Tucker and John Grim with an update on all of the new Forum projects and  partnerships and some current news about religion and ecology, such as the upcoming encyclical from Pope Francis, Fratelli Tutti.

Religion and Ecology, general
For those looking for more general content on Religion and Ecology, we have a very large collection of videos under our Resources>Multimedia>Video section, here. This collection features lectures by and interviews with our founders and directors Mary Evelyn Tucker and John Grim and has a few offerings from other scholars in the field.

In the same section of the site, you’ll also find a sampling of videos related to Journey of the Universe, Thomas Berry, the Earth Charter, and the Parliament of the World’s Religions.

In addition, Climate Emergency and Laudato Si each have their own multimedia resource page within their own section. These include webinars, interviews, and talks by a variety of scholars, activists, and faith leaders.

World Religions
Every tradition represented in our World Religions section has its own multimedia page with a wealth of video resources. You’ll find everything from scholarly lectures and interviews to religious ceremony and celebration. Just choose the tradition you’re looking for from our main World Religions page, and click on “Multimedia.”

Events
There are also videos available from some of the Forum’s many conferences and symposia:

Thomas Berry and the ‘Great Work’” (Georgetown University, 2019)
(Follow the link to the event site for video of select panels)

Abrahamic Traditions & Environmental Change (Rhodes, Greece, 2019)
(Follow the link to the event site for video interviews of all of the speakers)

Living Cosmology Conference (Yale Divinity, 2014)

Journey of the Universe and Our Elegant Universe” (Chautauqua Institution, 2013)

Renewing Hope: Pathways of Religious Environmentalism (Yale Divinity, 2008)

We also released a 17-part vlog series earlier this year in conjunction with the release of the new volume Living Earth Community: Multiple Ways of Being and Knowing that came out of the Living Earth Community conference. This series of videos contains interviews with many of the contributors, such as Eduardo Kohn and Peter Crane.

YouTube
In addition to what appears on the website, the Yale Forum also has a YouTube channel, where you will find additional video content not posted on the website. We offer many playlists organized topically and by religious tradition.

We hope these and the other many resources on the site are helpful to you and your students. Additional media is added to our website and YouTube channel regularly, so check back often!
