COVID and Vaccine. We approach the spring in the Northern Hemisphere. COVID continues to threaten the world. Confirmed cases as of February 26: 113,281,336. Deaths: 2,513,380. Recoveries: 63,901,395. More than 234.1 million vaccine doses have been administered worldwide, equal to 3.1 doses for every 100 people. There is already a stark gap between vaccination programs in different countries, with many yet to report a single dose.
Climate and Weather. Several weather events globally indicate the impact of climate change is not confined to only one part of the planet: Desert locust swarms and bands continue to threaten the Horn of Africa, especially parts of Somalia and Kenya. Below-average rainfall since the start of the rainy season has led to abnormal dryness and drought in parts of Angola and Namibia. Almost 75 percent of the United States had snow or ice in February which broke a record — and this bizarre weather pattern has affected at least 210 million people in 46 states in the United States and seven provinces in Canada. Greater than four million people in Texas and at least seven other states were without electricity due to power outages.
