‘Spiritual challenge’ of climate crisis demands ‘conversion’ says Leo

Brazil’s minister for climate and environment Marina Silva invited Pope Leo to attend COP30. The Laudato Si’ Movement’s Dr Lorna Gold reported that ‘he didn’t say no, and he didn’t say yes’.

Pope Leo blessed a chunk of 20,000-year-old ice from a melting glacier in Greenland on the opening day of an international conference marking the tenth anniversary of Laudato si’.

“God will ask us if we have cultivated and cared for the world that he created, for the benefit of all and for future generations, and if we have taken care of our brothers and sisters. What will be our answer?” he asked an international audience of around 1,000 people, including bishops, Religious, lay Catholics and Christian environmental activists, meeting in Castel Gandolfo.
