Orion’s 40th Anniversary Celebration

Tara C. Trapani

This year, Orion Magazine is celebrating 40 years of bringing rich and meaningful environmental writing to our world. Their celebration will consist of an online event, a silent auction, and a book contest from Ecco/Harper Collins.

The online event is free and open to all and will take place on June 14 at 6pm EST. You can register for it here. According to the event site, the online event will consist of appearances by Margaret Atwood, Rebecca Solnit, Vanessa Nakate, Jane Goodall, Camille T. Dungy, Jeff VanderMeer, and many others, plus a tribute to nature writer Barry Lopez, who passed away on Christmas Day 2020. Though the online event is not happening until June, if you register before March 31, you will be entered to win one of two bundles of environmentally themed books from Ecco/Harper Collins.

The virtual silent auction will be ongoing from now until the live event is over in June and will consist of many unique and special experiences. Some items will be offered in traditional bidding format, and others will be available for outright purchase until the quantity is exhausted. For any questions regarding the auction, please contact Orion's Customer Service Specialist, Ananda Bagiackas at 413.528.4422 or via email at ananda@orionmagazine.org.

Orion is also asking for donations in honor of this important milestone. Go here to send them a celebratory donation that will help support their important work.

Please join the Forum in congratulating Orion on the last 40 years and in hoping that they continue to bring us valuable writing about the natural world for many decades to come.
