March 3, 2015
In recognition of the work of the late Nobel Laureate Professor Wangari Maathai, the African Union (AU) designated the 3rd of March, every year, as Wangari Maathai Day to be observed in conjunction with Africa Environmental Day.
As part of a series of events being organized to mark the celebrations this year, the AU and partners, including Green Belt Movement (GBM), UNEP and the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) have organized a Women and Environment Forum. The forum’s theme - Empowering Women for Sustainable Natural Resource Management - aims to highlight the important role that women play in managing natural resources in societies across Africa.
We hope that you will support GBM to enable us reach out and inspire people in Kenya and around the world to take action in support of good governance, environmental sustainability, and the expansion of democratic space.
Help us get the word out on Facebook and Twitter using the hashtag #WangariMaathaiday2015.
Because of you, we will Keep Wangari Maathai’s legacy alive!
