Spirituality, Values & Culture: A Consultation on Cities

Event description:

July 26, 2022

The Centre for Earth Ethics will host a conversation about Cities (Urban Ecosystems). We have chosen to focus on the city of Mombasa, Kenya and have designed this discussion to identify:

• what ‘Ecosystem Restoration’ looks like in Mombasa;
• what role houses of worship and faith-based institutions can play in creating more green spaces with cities; and
• the benefit that they bring

This Consultation will focus on sharing knowledge with local social and faith leaders in Mombasa, Kenya, predominantly of the Muslim, Hindu and Christian religious traditions by highlighting a duty of care for the environment, particularly in the context of urban ecosystems.

Speakers include:

- Jenifer Situma - Ecosystem Conservator, Mombasa County
- Simran Khataw - Environmental Consultant
- Mbaarak Abdallah - Director & Founder, Brain Youth Group
- Chris Elisara - Co-Director WEA Sustainability Center & Lead for the Studio for Placemaking at the Ormond Center, Duke Divinity School
