Two performances only: 2:00 – 2:20 pm & 3:00 – 3:20 pm
On October 10, The Morgan Library & Museum, in collaboration with the Foundation for Spirituality and the Arts (FSA), presents the premiere of Heaven and Earth: The Garden of Cosmos.
This new, one-afternoon-only performance by Beijing and Los Angeles–based artist and scholar Bingyi, is conceived in conjunction with the Morgan’s current exhibition, Sing A New Song: The Psalms in Medieval Art and Life.
Join for this singular experience — a moment to be inspired, moved, and connected.
Curated by FSA Curator-at-Large Leeza Ahmady, the performance will take place in the museum’s garden on the East 35th Street side of the building, or in the lower lobby in case of inclement weather. Tickets can be purchased at the door, or in advance by clicking HERE.
Traditionally ascribed to King David, the Hebrew Book of Psalms is a collection of sacred poems, the longest and most beloved book of the Bible, expressing lamentations and loss, petitions and confessions, as well as joy and thanksgiving, universal themes that speak to the essence of being human. Bingyi’s performance is inspired by Psalm 104, which celebrates creation, divine order, and cosmic harmony that transcends cultural boundaries. Drawing on her deep engagement with Abrahamic scriptures and Chinese philosophical traditions, she transforms the Morgan Library & Museum's garden into a contemplative convergence of architecture, sound, and spirit. Clad in a flowing, ink-painted rice-paper garment, Bingyi embodies a living meditation: a praise song to the harmony of heaven, earth, and the boundless cosmos. In collaboration with Tibetan ritual master Nanmei and Yi singer Aluo, she invokes the ancient power of chant and sacred verse, forging a shared sacred space that traverses Taoist, Buddhist, and Judeo-Christian cosmologies—a portal between form and formlessness.
