Orion’s 40th anniversary

Orion is a nonprofit environmental magazine that has published beautiful and urgent writing by authors and poets such as Amitav Ghosh, Robert Macfarlane, Terry Tempest Williams, Robin Wall Kimmerer, Camille Dungy, and many others. This year is Orion’s 40th anniversary, and to celebrate, the magazine is hosting a virtual gala on June 14 at 6pm ET. This celebratory event will inaugurate two awards: The Orion Barry Lopez Award for Achievements in Letters and Environments, which will be presented to Margaret Atwood; and the Orion Jane Goodall Award for Inspiring Courage in Action, which will be presented to Vanessa Nakate, a Ugandan activist who is fighting to bring the world’s attention to the immediate impacts of climate change facing her country and continent. This inspiring and joyful event will also feature appearances by Rebecca Solnit, Emily Raboteau, Ross Gay, Jeff VanderMeer, Lauren Groff, Bill McKibben, Omar El Akkad, and many, many others.
