Meredith Barges is a bird-friendly building policy advocate, chair of Lights Out CNY, and a PhD student at the SUNY School of Environment & Forestry. She helps people to appreciate the complex lives of birds and how our decisions about buildings and lighting affect bird populations. In 2023, she helped lead a statewide campaign to pass Public Act No. 23-143, Connecticut's “Lights Out bill,” as co-chair of Lights Out CT. As a former policy researcher at the Yale Bird-friendly Building Initiative, she co-authored Building Safer Cities for Birds: How Cities Are Leading the Way on Bird-Friendly Building Policy. In 2021 she helped convince Yale Divinity School to join Lights Out for birds. She holds an MDiv from Yale Divinity School and an MA from the University of Chicago.
