On behalf of the Stockholm Environment Institute and the Vatican’s Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, it is our pleasure to invite you to the launch of “Our common home: A guide to caring for our living planet,” the product of a unique collaboration between SEI and the Dicastery that connects the science of climate change, biodiversity and sustainable resource use with the messages of Pope Francis’s 2015 Encyclical on the environment, Laudato si’.

At our virtual launch event on Tuesday, 14 February at 15:00-16:00 CET, we will unveil a new booklet and companion website – available in English, French, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish – that distil the science on urgent environmental issues and explain how individuals and communities can take action to build a more sustainable and socially just future.

SEI worked collaboratively on the booklet with the Dicastery, with SEI contributing its scientific and communications expertise and the Dicastery providing ideas for action for congregations and communities.

Over 20 beautifully illustrated pages, the booklet provides succinct, but scientifically robust overviews of the climate crisis, biodiversity, water resources management, air pollution, sustainable food production, consumption, and social justice, describing what needs to change and offering multiple ways to take action.

It ends on a hopeful note: “As much as this is a moment of crisis, it is also one of opportunity: we can renew our relationship with the planet so that we not only sustain ourselves, but also thrive and flourish.”

Like the booklet, the launch event will combine perspectives from faith and science. We will also hear from Catholics around the world who have heeded the call of Laudato si’ to protect our living planet and the people who call it home, and we will provide time for questions and discussion. The full event programme is available on the event page.

You do not need to register. Join the event on this link: https://bit.ly/bookletlaunch

We hope you will be able to join us! Feel free to also forward this invitation to contacts with an interest in values-based environmental advocacy and Catholic perspectives on environmental stewardship.
