Through Faithful Footprints, a partnership with Faith & the Common Good, the United Church of Canada is offering grants and support for churches to measure their energy use and reduce their climate pollution, in ways that save money and strengthen congregational renewal.

Impact

UCC plans to reduce emissions by 80% by 2050, starting with a focus on our own buildings.

Background

In September 2020, UNEP’s Faith for Earth Initiative, the Parliament of the World’s Religions, United Religions Initiative, and Bhumi Global published a report to celebrate the five year anniversary of the UN Sustainability Development Goals. The report featured data they had collected on faith-based organizations around the world doing work that fell within the scope of the environmental SDGs.

Only a fraction of the collected data was used in the written report, so these organizations partnered with the Yale Forum on Religion and Ecology to bring the complete information to the public here on this site as a living, evolving, searchable database. Additional organizations and projects are added on a quarterly basis. This listing is not meant to be a comprehensive overview of any group’s activities, but rather the progress of specific projects towards the environmental SDGs. For more information on a group or a project, visit their website using the links provided on the individual project page.
