Countries or Areas
Summary of Activity
In 2014, the Indonesian Council of Ulema (MUI) declared the illegal wildlife trade to be forbidden under Islamic law. The fatwa (a religious decree) forbids Indonesia’s Muslims from all activities resulting in wildlife extinction.
This is the first ever fatwa issued against illegal wildlife trafficking and resulted out of a partnership between ARC, WWF-Indonesia, and the Indonesian Ulema Council.
