On February 18 John Grim will give a talk titled “Lifeways, Cosmovisions, and a Giving World.” This will be a “Hope and Joy” gathering for Third Act to help folks think about ways ahead finding “defiant joy.”
John will give particular attention to ways in which Crow/Apsaalooka peoples in Montana understand and practice community values derived from their long cultural journey searching for balance and harmony in an often-fragmenting world. Despite more than a century of colonial efforts to subvert their Indigenous communities, they continue to teach ways of cultural wisdom and survival. Understanding kinship with the community of life that reaches into the larger cosmos these people have made their way into the 21st century. With such perspectives, perhaps the rest of us can think about, and break through, to ways of human-Earth interactions that acknowledge a deep-time dimension of reality. The larger question for us all hinges on the human capacity to flourish along with - rather than destroy - the larger Earth community.
