Summary of Activity

This toolkit assists faith-based groups to ensure that investments align with their mission and vision, particularly in light of global climate change. While the Eco-Investment Accelerator Toolkit is inspired by Catholic Social Teaching and Pope Francis's "Laudato Si," it is designed for any institution that shares concerns about the moral challenge of climate change. Very specifically, the toolkit provides resources for the role of investments in Canada’s energy sector while assessing a Canadian faith-based response to challenges inherent with those investments. This toolkit was created in partnership with Mouvement Laudato Si' Movement - Canada (a project of Faith & the Common Good) and in partnership with Laudato Si' Movement (international), and with funding from the Catherine Donnlelly Foundation.

Impact

Most notably, the Eco-Accelerator Toolkit is included in the Living Laudato Si’ Resource hub of FaithInvest UK for the Laudato Si’ Action Platform; and is reaching an expanding audience. The toolkit has also informed and influenced a number of meetings across Canada throughout 2022, including: the Federation of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada and Our Ladies Missionaries, the Catholic Women's Leadership Foundation, parishes in Ottawa, some of whom are making divestment declarations or are in various stages of signing a divestment commitment by using the toolkit. The toolkit has been used as a teaching resource for various colleges and universities that emphasize the importance of moral investing and divestment as integral to the common good. In 2023, the toolkit will continue to be circulated widely and mentioned at ecumenical and interfaith gatherings.
