Fires make the headlines, but the after-years do not. In January 2025, the LA fires killed hundreds of people, destroyed 16,000 buildings, and wreaked untold havoc on the more-than-human world. St. Matthew's sanctuary in Pacific Palisades stood while everything around it burned. St. Mark's in Altadena lost its church and school entirely.
Those who showed up to hold the grief of others were, themselves, also grieving.
