Living Earth Community Conference

Event description:

Conference: “Living Earth Community”
October 17, 2026
Yale University
O.C. Marsh Hall and Peabody Museum

On October 17, 2026 we will bring scientists and humanists into dialogue to explore different ways of knowing and interacting with the intelligences of nature, foregrounded in the Forum’s newest website Living Earth Community. Inspired by scientific research and skilled nature writing we are appreciating these intelligences in fresh ways.  In recent years the differentiated sentience of nature is becoming more evident, something Indigenous peoples and other cultures have recognized for millennia. Beginning with a major scientific report on biodiversity (Nature Record) in the United States, this conference will encourage a deeper appreciation for the extraordinary complexity of ecosystems and point toward means of protection such as Rights of Nature. The conference is hosted in conjunction with the Yale Peabody Museum.

The conference is free and open to the public. but pre-registration is required, and space is limited.
