Summary of Activity

Through its Global Interfaith WASH Alliance initiative, Parmarth Niketan ashram has made the planting of trees a priority and has established a Tree Distribution & Planting program. For the past decade (approximately 2010), trees have been planted throughout the Himalayan regions in Uttarakhand as well as in several draught-prone areas of India such as Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

Impact

More than 750,000 trees have been planted since the start of the initiative. Between April 2021 to April 2022, the following outcomes were achieved: 70,000 trees planted in honor of the 69th birthday (beginning of the 70th year) of Pujya Swami Chidanand Saraswatiji, GIWA‚ Äôs Founder and Chair; 15,000 trees were planted during the time of the Kumbha Mela in Haridwar; 2,500 saplings sent to Uttarkashi to be planted by the forest department; 600 trees planted in Rishikesh schools; Through Mission Oxygen, a special initiative started by Pujya Swami Chidanand Saraswatiji, people who had recovered from Covid-19 were bid farewell from Rishikesh and Haridwar hospitals with a gift of a tree sapling to take home and plant at their homes.
