The Hamden Land Trust will host a public talk on Thursday, May 21, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. focused on the importance of kettle pond ecosystems, including those found in the Six Lakes area as well as at the land trust’s Johnson’s Pond and Servoss/Mather properties. The talk is co-sponsored by the Six Lakes Park Coalition. Talk will be held at the Miller Library Senior Center, entrance in back.

Dr. Robert Thorson, a professor at UConn and the author of a nationally recognized book on kettle pond ecosystems, will discuss how kettle ponds were formed, why they support distinctive and often fragile ecological communities, and why these systems are especially important to protect today, given development pressure and climate change.
