Book Title:Indigenous Peoples: a Global Quest for Justice
Author(s):International Commission on International Humanitarian Issues
Publisher Name:Zed
Place of Publication:Atlantic Highlands and London
Date of Publication:1987
Annotation:Motivated by the discrepancy between the little amount that is known about indigenous cultures and the development projects sponsored by governments, transnational corporations, and development banks, this report draws attention to the presence of various indigenous peoples around the globe, the problems they face, and their struggles for justice. After providing background information about the definition, demographics, and histories of indigenous peoples, the report addresses specific issues that demand humanitarian action, including environmental destruction and unequal distribution of natural resources, and concludes by evaluating national and international responses.
