Book Title:Japanese Images of Nature: Cultural Perspectives
Article/Chapter Title:Mount Fuji and the Cherry Blossoms: A View from Afar
Editor(s):Kalland, Arne
Author(s):Moeran, Brian; Skov, Lisa
Publisher Name:Curzon Press
Place of Publication:Surrey
Date of Publication:1997
Annotation:Moeran and Skov use the images of Mount Fuji, cherry blossoms, and kimono-clad women to examine the way natural imagery is produced, reworked, and consumed in Japanese advertising. They demonstrate how orientalist stereotypes of Japanese relations with nature drive the meaning of these images in national and global markets and how seasonal changes are related to cycles of consumption.
