Book Title:The view from afar
Article/Chapter Title:Stucturalism and Ecology
Journal Title:Barnard Alumnae Magazine
Author(s):Levi-Strauss, Claude
Date of Publication:1972
Annotation:Levi-Strauss provides some background on the reception and criticism of his structuralist methodology by utilizing a mythological analysis of two related myths. Highlighting land/water connections and its symbolism, he illustrates two types of determinism. A mild defense of structuralist methodology, Levi-Strauss enumerates how it can recover dim but deeper truths as well as reconcile otherwise opposing dichotomies.
