You are cordially invited to an evening of reflection and celebration of the historic Encyclical of Pope Francis, Laudato Si: On the Care of Our Common Home. In this letter addressed to all people everywhere Pope Francis calls us to respond to the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor, a call he has sounded to every nation, every government, every religion, every person. Now Iona offers to our local community the opportunity to reflect and dialogue around these challenges.
Our keynote speaker is Erin Lothes Biviano will share her impressions and the implications of the document for our world. Assistant professor of theology at the College of St. Elizabeth, she coordinates the “Discipleship and Sustainability” Interest Group of the Catholic Theological Society of America. In A New Paradigm for Catholic Energy Ethics, she offers a constructive response to the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace’s document Energy, Justice and Peace: A Reflection on Energy in the Current Context of Development and Environmental Protection.
